In the spirit of "real world" performance testing, Let's take a look at how CSFB from LTE to 2G (or 3G if someone wants to do that as well) is performing with some example phones, using the osmocom 2G/3G stack and open5gs.
In my experience, this is not working with sufficient reliability. Let try to improve some of this.
Issues are such as: phone does not fall back, phone does not go back to LTE post call, Phone camps to 2G as soon as 2G is seen. Phone responds to paging on LTE, but RACH on 2g is not successful, _ more.
Requirements: (some of which I can not bring):
A plethora of phones with LTE support in a band we can use to test and compare behaviour.
LTE radio (for me, having a DUL/RUS setup would be nice.)
Sysmocom 2G BTS(s) + possibly 3G hNodeB
Attenuators. Can we rig some kind of makeshift faraday cage?
Maybe having a common server/VM setup for the core and for all to work on would be nice, to avoid using anyone's personal laptop for that.
